NFL Bargain Bets: Week 5
October 3rd 2008 by Old Man Winner
N.Y. Giants (-7) vs Seattle Seahawks
I love this game. The Giants are healthy and have been playing very confident,
smart football. Their turnovers are low, they have a great offensive line that
can both run and pass block, and their defensive front seven are brutal. They
should be able to run the ball fairly well against a very average defense and
get a couple of nice plays down the field. However, its not this side of the
ball that excites me.
Seattle has been able to stay in games with their running game, which has been a
big shock considering a very average back in Julius Jones and coming off of
several years where their passing game has led the charge. Give Holmgren some
credit. He has done well adjusting to a ton of injuries, most noticeably at the
WR position. They are projecting to get both Bobby Engram and Deion Branch back
this week and that has given some prognosticators hope. I believe it is just the
opposite. I think trying to install previously injured players (who are aging
significantly) into a line-up mid season often requires several games to get
their timing back.
Both teams have had two weeks to scheme, but I think the Giants defensive line
owns this game and thus the Giants own this game. I foresee them winning by at
least two touchdowns.
Bargain Bets 2008 Record: 3-1
