NFL Bargain Bets: Week 7
October 17th 2008 by Old Man Winner
Tennessee Titans (-7.5) at Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs are absolutely dead last in the NFL in passing. They are in the
middle of the pack, however, in rushing the ball . . . . when they have Larry
Johnson! Unfortunately for KC fans, they won't have him this weekend. He has
been suspended for one game for "violating team rules."
And, although I've been told way too many times not to take road favorites, I
have to take the Titans in this one. They continue to play smart football. Kerry
Collins, albeit not that gifted physically, understands his role. He is the one
that is charged with "managing the game", which, as we all know, is a
euphemism
for "not f$#@&ing it up." At 40 years old, he knows that his team is built
around an exceedingly strong defense and a solid running game. He needs to
follow the game plan, watch for those opportunities where the opposing defense
allows high percentage pass completions, and not turn the ball over. He gets it!
And, therefore, the Titans will roll.
KC, on the other hand, is an organization in disarray. Besides their best player
being out for this week, their second best player, Tony Gonzalez, will be in the
lineup after unsuccessfully lobbying all week to be traded. Their head coach is
awful and team has been distracted all week. I don't know if they will try to
run the ball with a depleted offensive line and a subpar RB replacement, or try
to throw the ball against a fierce pass rush. Either way, they shouldn't have
much success.
Go with the Titans and don't worry if the spread climbs.
