NFL Play of the Week: Raiders Fake Field Goal Gone Bad December 1st 2008
It's rare that we even do a play of the week article but this week's top nominee
was so special, we couldn't resist. This play was so jaw dropping, it
really needs to be highlighted. However, it's not surprising that the
Raiders are the culprit. Even Herm Edwards needed to pinch himself after
this play was over to make sure he wasn't dreaming (watch his expression on the
sideline). Talk about momentum changers, the Raiders were lining up for a
43 yard field goal when all of a sudden they decided to get tricky. The
trickery didn't pay off as Lechler and Janikowski botched a fake field goal play
that turned into an easy 7 points for the Chiefs. Did the Raiders coaching
staff really believe that a 250 pound kicker was going to take it 10 yards for a
first down anyways? Instead of taking a 6-3
lead, the Raiders found themselves down 10-3 (a 10 point swing) and could never
