Pilfo's Parlay for Week 6
October 15th 2009 - Pilfo
The Saints are the powerhouse of the NFL. Their offense is untouchable. Their
ground game has become as good as their passing game. Their defense is tough as
nails. If the playoffs were to start today the Saints would win the Superbowl.
Now we all know teams can peak too early and miss out when the playoffs come but
it is way too early for these Saints to have peaked. The bye week came at a good
time as a few players were banged up but whether it's Mike Bell (my personal
favorite) or Pierre Thomas starting in the backfield it won't matter because
this offense is unstoppable for 60 minutes.
The Giants are a very good team but they have significant injuries. Their
quarterback has a nagging foot injury and their secondary is banged up. These
somewhat subtle injuries make the difference in big games involving good teams.
The Giants will put up a fight but the cream will rise to the top here.
Prediction: New Orleans 28-17
Rex Ryan lost last weeks game in Miami all by himself. He has nobody else to
blame. As a spectator in the stands I was not wearing any gear and/or pads and I
was sweating in the high heat and high humidity like a pig in heat. The Jets
played their starters on Defense almost exclusively and by the end of the 3rd
quarter they were gassed. This week will be different as Rex will be a coach on
a mission to get his winning streak back on track. The Jets will throw
everything they have at Buffalo and blow them out. The Jets running game is far
superior to that of Buffalo's. The passing game has instantly improved with the
addition of Braylon Edwards.
Buffalo has disappeared after their good start. The main reason does come down
to injuries but that is football as they say. Buffalo may try and keep to the
running game and try to shorten the game a bit but they will fall behind by the
beginning of the 3rd quarter. They don't play catch-up ball very well. Expect to
see the Bills give one or two td's away to the Jets defense.
Prediction: Jets 35-10
The Titans are not as bad as their record would indicate. They still have
talented players both on offense and defense. More importantly they still have
their pride and are a well coached team. Kerry Collins can still hit his
receivers when he is not pressured and he will have time to throw this week. I
believe the Titans will use the passing game to open up the running game and
they will be successful at moving the football.
The Patriots can not put pressure on the quarterback any more as evidence by all
the time Kyle Orton had to throw last week. The Pats are still good against the
run but their defense has aged and is becoming outdated. The Pats will get some
points on the board and may even squeak out a win but it will not be an easy
game for them.
Prediction: Patriots 21-20
