NFL Bargain Bets for Week 9
November 5th 2010 - Old Man Winner
Tampa Bay Bucs +8.5 vs. Atlanta Falcons
Why wouldn't you bet on the "best team in the NFC," if you were also getting
8 1/2 points? Yep, I'm going with the Tampa Bay Bucs plus the points this week,
the best team in the NFC per their head coach. Hey, although nobody else
believes it, he's got his team believing it and that is all that matters.
Ah, yes, the Buccaneers - they will always remind me of the Halloween story (how
appropriate is this) of the young lad who approached the elder gentlemen's house
to trick or treat. When the old man asked the boy what he was dressed up as the
boy responded, "a pirate." When the man asked "well where then are your
buccaneers," the boy answered, "they're under my buc n' hat." But I digress . .
.
Although their schedule has been a cake walk the Bucs are taking care of
business. Josh Freeman is the real deal. He can make all the throws, is cool in
the pocket, has the mobility to avoid the rush, and is building a very
commendable 4th quarter resume. LeGarrett Blount is better than Chevy Williams
(used to be Cadillac) and can really pack a punch (pun intended - see Oregon
clip from last year). Yes, they've got holes on defense, but I don't believe
their holes are 8 1/2 points wide.
The Falcons are good, but they are so vanilla offensively that most of their
games are close. Of their five wins, only one has been by more than 7 points.
Take the points and don't be surprised if Tampa steals one here.
