NFL Best Bets for Week 2
September 15th 2012 - Old Man Winner
Was -3 @ Stl
I know I'm not the first to say this, but RGIII is the real deal. Last week
he looked like a veteran QB - patient in the pocket and a solid decision maker.
However, unlike most vets, this guy is called "The Arm" and can use his legs.
Now don't get me wrong, we all realize that one game does not a season make, but
the 'skins are playing quite possibly the worst team in football - and they are
banged up! This spread should be at least 7.
The Rams will be without one starting guard and another tackle is
questionable. The Redskins should be able to shut down the Rams running game and
squeeze down Stafford's release time to such a degree that he won't be able to
throw more than 10 yards down the field.
I don't like that Garcon may not play, as his downfield speed really helped
to open the middle of the field last week, but it looks as though Mike Shanahan
may have found a RB he likes (for at least one more week) and will most
definitely use him to establish the ground game against a very questionable Ram
front.
This should be a fairly low scoring game, but I expect the Redskins front 7
to be the difference in the game.

Cle/Cin UNDER 38.5
I am going to take the UNDER with Cleveland until the line catches up. This
is a horrible offensive team and a pretty good defensive one. That equals a low
total, especially when the team they are playing is not necessarily an offensive
juggernaut. Joe Haden completely dominated the game last week from his CB
position - very hard to do, but he is quickly becoming an elite CB that could
soon challenge Revis for the #1 spot. Unfortunately, Haden is suspended for the
next four weeks. This should give A. J. Green much more room to work. However, I
still like the under here in this in-state rivalry game.

Ari/NE Under 48
The Pats defense was terrible last year. It has improved tremendously. They
added two stud pass rushers, and their young linebackers have started to get
comfortable in their scheme. Arizona is a total offensive mess, especially with
Kolb behind center. They are a turnover waiting to happen. However, their
defense is very tough and could give that NE offensive line some trouble. As
long as there is not more than one defense or special team score, Arizona will
make sure this game stays under the number.
