NFL Best Bets for Week 5
October 5th 2012 - Old Man Winner
A little something for everyone this week. How about two chalks and two
dogs?
We'll start with the Chalk.
Atl -3 @ Was
Washington will run, Atlanta will pass. I like Atlanta's passing weapons vs.
a horrendous Redskins secondary over the rushing yards of Shani's new found
running toy and a few QB jaunts. Since Arizona, one of the three undefeated
teams coming into the week, has already lost, the other two should be safe (see
other team below). Atlanta is way too physical on defense for the Redskins
finesse offense. Look for some key turnovers to go in the Falcons favor. I see
this as a very high scoring game with Atlanta's passing attack getting the best
of it.

Hou -7.5 @NYJ
How can this one even be close? The Jets have just become the worst team in
football. They have a very poor QB, no rushing game, and in the last two weeks
they have lost their best player on offense (Santonio Holmes), and their best
player on defense (Darrell Revis). What do they have left to save the day? DO
NOT SAY IT! No, its not that time . . . . YET! Maybe next week.
Houston, on the other hand, is currently believed to be the best team in the NFL
with a quality, balanced offense and arguably the best defense in the league.
This one should be over before halftime.

If you prefer the dogs. Here is something for you. This week's magic number is
9.5.
Cle +9.5 vs. NYG
The Browns have played four teams that are all currently holding at least a
share of the lead in each of their respective divisions. And, they have played
three of them to within a one score game. Some analysts have them as the worst
team in football. I think by year's end you will see that they are not. Their
defense is actually decent and will get better once CB Joe Haden returns next
week. Although they don't have much of an offense, Trent Richardson is a pro
bowl running back who can carry an offense.
The Giants are good, but typically falter at home to inferior teams during the
middle of the season. They are very banged up and missing some critical weapons
in the passing game. I do expect the Giants to win, but Tom Coughlin will sit on
the ball in the fourth quarter and frustrate those on the other side of this one
when he allows the Browns to cover.

Buf +9.5 vs. SF
The 49ers will win this game, yes. However, 9.5 points is simply too many.
The niners are coming home after two straight weeks on the road. Not two
consecutive road games, but literally two weeks away from home. That likely
means alot of distractions at home . . . if you know what I mean. Buffalo can
score points through the air - the only way to beat this SF defense. If Ryan
Fitzpatrick can hold his turnovers to just one, then the Bills should cover.
