NFL Thursday Night Pick for Week 5
October 4th 2012 - Special K
Arizona Cardinals (-1.5) at St Louis Rams
What did I take away in watching last week's
Rams/Seahawks game? Let's just say this, if you need to score all your points
using special teams then you aren't a very good football team. The Rams are
ranked 30th in red zone efficiency, so I see why Jeff Fisher has resorted to
using fake field goals to score touchdowns. Greg Zuerlein, who? This guy kicked
two ridiculous field goals from 58 and 60 yards. The fact that the Rams even
attempted these field goals has me wondering what will happen when the Cardinals
block one of these come Thursday Night.
Kevin Kolb has surprised many critics around the NFL this year. I think this
kind of QB play is what was expected of him when the Cardinals made that trade
with the Eagles. The Cardinals and Kolb have finally found their replacement for
Boldin in Andre Roberts, the touchdown machine. With teams double covering
Fitzgerald, Roberts has been able to take full advantage. The Cardinals do need
to improve greatly in the running game. It will be important that they run the
ball for at least 70 yards against the Rams to keep the Rams pass rush honest.
I predicted that the Cardinals would have a letdown game against the Dolphins (see
Underdog Pick - Week 4).
However, this week the Cards face a division rival who could pull within one
game of them if the standings. The Cardinals have a much better defense than the
Rams and with the emergence of Roberts at WR, the Cardinals should be able to
pass on the Rams. I expect the Cardinals to shutdown Fisher's trickery and win
in St Louis.
