NFL Best Bets for Week 1
September 2nd 2013 - Old Man Winner
Tennessee Titans +7 at Pittsburgh Steelers
I love week #1 - always tremendous value out there. What a way to start the
year - with a gift from the Week #1 Football Gods.
Mark my words, this will be a down year for the Pittsburgh Steelers and a plus
year for Tennessee, and its starts in week 1. I think the Titans could easily
win this game outright, but I fully expected the oddsmakers to make the terrible
towel waivers a 3-3.5 point favorite. Imagine my delight to see the Titans
getting a full touchdown!!! I plan to play this game on the money line and back
it up with a spread play as a hedge.
Generally, fans and bettors think of the Steelers as winners and the Titans as
losers. However, the facts tell a different story. The Steelers are a mess on
offense. Their line is abysmal, the will start what amounts to their third
string running back, and they've lost arguably their best receiver. Big Ben has
lost what little mobility he had and he will be running for his life in most
games. Their defense lost a litany of their best players in the offseason and I
expect their younger players to need at least a few weeks to gel.
For the Titans, they know who they are and that is a running team. They spent
the offseason bolstering their offensive line. We saw glimpses in the pre-season
of the difference these guys will make to their RB Chris Johnson. Don't be
surprised if he returns to CJ2K form from just a few short years ago. Also,
Kenny Britt is an elite talent, and if he can stay healthy, he could make a huge
difference in this offense. The Tennessee defense has some play makers and I
expect at least a couple of interceptions in this one.
Take the Titans in week 1 and start your year off with a win!
Other games I like: Atl +3 @ NO, Hou -3.5 @ SD, and Dal -3 vs. NYG
