NFL Underdog Pick for Week 1
September 2nd 2013 - Special K
Baltimore Ravens (+9) at Denver
Broncos
Yeah Yeah, the Ravens don't have their emotional leader Ray Lewis on defense
anymore. Plus, the Ravens have lost Ed Reed and other key members of their Super
Bowl defense, not too mention one of their best wide receivers in Boldin. The
Ravens are also hurting at tight end as well. So why would anyone back the
Ravens against the Denver Broncos, a team who wants revenge for that horrific
playoff loss last year?
It simple, for all the reasons I stated above, the spread on this game is way
over inflated. There is huge value in taking the Ravens with the points. The
Ravens still have Ray Rice to carry the load on offense. Elvis
will be back in the house but this time he will be wearing a new uniform. The Ravens have revamped their defense
with the acquisition of Dumervil and their defensive front is still one of the
best in football. 9 points is absurd. This game will come down to the wire just
like last season's playoff game.
Can you tell me the last time a Super Bowl Champion was an underdog in their
season opener the following season? You have to go all the way back to the 2003
Tampa Bay Bucs, 10 years ago. They were a 3 point underdog at Philadelphia.
Take the Ravens and the points
