NFL Underdog Pick for Week 12
November 22nd 2013 - Special K
Dallas Cowboys (+2.5) at New York Giants
I know exactly what you are thinking. Here we go again, Tony Romo and the
Cowboys are in a must win situation. How are the Cowboys going to blow this
football game against the Giants this time around? Is it going be a Tony Romo
late interception? Will Jason Garrett ice his own kicker? Will the Cowboys
defense let Eli drive the length of the field for a game winning TD in less than
a minute? Just like the movie Groundhog Day, the Cowboys always find themselves
reliving this same scenario over and over and the outcome has always been the
same as well, a loss. The Giants, for that matter, always seem to start off the
season slowly (0-6 this year) and then rebound from this terrible start. Now the
Giants are on a 4 game winning steak.
So why should I back the Cowboys when they have a history of choking in big
games under Garrett and Romo? Listen, don't let this Giants 4 game winning
streak fool you. The Giants offense is still struggling, the special teams are a
disaster (I predict Harris runs one back) and while the defense has definitely
shown improvement, they have played against fill-in QBs. They beat Minnesota
after Josh Freeman who had only been with the Vikings for a week. Then they beat
the Eagles after Vick went down and Barkley stepped in. They barely squeezed by
the Raiders with a gimpy Pryor and beat the Rodgers-less Packers.
I really like the Cowboys coming off an embarrassing loss to the Saints, a bye
week to get healthy and some time to fix their porous defense. Here are some
numbers for you to digest as well. Since Jason Garrett's first full season in
2011, the Cowboys are only a mere .500 football team. However, against teams
under .500, the Cowboys are 17-1. The Giants are under .500.
Take the Cowboys
