NFL Best Bets for Week 16
December 20th 2014 - Old Man Winner
Stl -5 vs. NYG
I'll bet this wasn't the game you expected to see here. Can you really trust the
6-8 Stl. Rams led by a third string journeyman quarterback to cover a 5 pt.
spread? I think so, because its not about their offense, but their defense.
The Rams have not given up a touchdown in their last three games, with two of
those being shutouts. That just doesn't happen in the NFL anymore. Granted,
those three matchups were cupcakes, but the Giants are no juggernauts.
Hey, I don't hate the Giants. On the contrary, you've seen them in this column a
couple of times this year. However, I think with Jennings officially ruled out,
this team has become one-dimensional. It's Odell Beckham and that's about it. I
don't think Jax, Ten, or Wash had an answer for his skills. But the Rams do.
They have these things that those three teams do not have: a quality
defensive-minded coach, a pass rush, and a team that knows how to create
turnovers.
As usual, I expect Shaun Hill to do a good job of 'managing the game' and do a
lot of handing the ball off to Tre Mason, who should have a monster game. I also
expect Manning to be uneasy in the pocket all day and have little time to find a
double-covered Beckham.
By sound mathematical logic with the Giants defeating the Redskins last week by
a score of 24-13 and the Rams defeating them two weeks ago by a score of 24-0.
That makes the Rams 13 pts better than the Giants . . . . duh!
Oh, and BTW, bold prediction: Rams will get one score on a crazy play of some
kind . . . .
