New Orleans Saints (+3) at Detroit
Lions
The New Orleans Saints are one of the best teams following a bye week.
They are 5-0 in the past 5 years. Give Sean Payton and Drew Brees two weeks to
prepare for a game and I can certainly understand why they have not lost.
The Lions are definitely one of the surprise stories of the 2014 season.
The Lions have eliminated the dumb penalties and the defense is much improved.
However, the Saints are a much better team than their record indicates. The Saints are one of the top offenses in the NFL, ranked #2 in total
yards, #2 in yards per play, #2 in passing yards, and #2 in total plays from
scrimmage. Brees will miss his favorite target Jiimy Graham this week but the
Saints can compensate that loss with solid play from their 3 running backs. Megatron
is a bigger loss to the Lions. I don't think the Lions can keep up
and match the offense of the Saints without him.
Normally, it isn't a good idea to back the Saints on the road, but I like the
Saints coming off of a bye in this spot against the Lions.
