NFL Conference Finals Playoff Underdog Pick
January 17th 2014 - Special K
New England Patriots (+5) at
Denver Broncos
Last week an article came out in Sporting News that I found completely absurd
and laughable (article
link). It was an article ranking which QBs of the remaining 8 teams left in
the playoffs were best suited to get to the Super Bowl. The writer ranked the
QBs based on intangibles, pocket presence/awareness, mobility/athleticism,
accuracy/delivery, and arm strength. Somehow, this writer ended up ranking Tom
Brady 8th below Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, etc. Seriously last? The writer ranked
Brady 6th in pocket presence! C'mon, Brady is the Jedi master of the pocket! 5th
ranked on intangibles? Umm, hello Brady has been to 5 Super Bowls and is one of
the most competitive QBs I've ever seen play. If you were to have asked me to
rank the 8 QBs that were remaining, Brady would have come out 1st or 2nd at
worst on this list. This writer is absolutely the guy you want to invite to your
football pool or fantasy league so you can gladly take his money.
Now, onto the matchup. Brady and the Hoodie are 10-4 all time against Peyton
Manning. The only Manning that seems to give the Patriots fits is Eli. Sure
Manning has more weapons on offense but the Broncos defense is critically
wounded. The Patriots will exploit the Broncos weaknesses in the secondary
because that's what the Patriots do. The Patriots have only lost 2 games
in the last 2 seasons by more than 5 points. I like their chances in Denver.
Take the Patriots and the Points
