If it Doesn't Fit, You Must Commit!
It's holiday time . . . wait, I don't need to be politically correct - it's
Christmas time! And, every Christmas season my family puts together a Christmas
puzzle. Then we seal it, frame it, and put it above the mantle for everyone to
see the following year.
What does this have to do with this game? Well, it kind of reminds me of the
puzzle piece that never seems to fit. The one you are always grabbing because it
has several colors, but never is, in fact, the right one. This game reminds me
of that. I like the Raiders. I like their players. I love that they are getting
points. I love that they are playing at home. In other words, I like this puzzle
piece. I want it to fit. But, unfortunately, it just doesn't.
To use a completely overused colloquialism, at the end of the day . . . The
Packers are still the Packers - Aaron Rodgers is still Aaron Rodgers, and the
Raiders, sigh, are still the Raiders. There, that puzzle piece fits perfectly
into place.
The Pack finally are showing signs of being back and Eddie Lacy is running well
in the only month he ever runs well, December. The O line has stabilized a bit,
and the receivers seem to be catching a few more passes.
The Raiders defense was great last week, including a world-beater day by Khalil
Mack. I think they blew their wad last week against their division rival and a
fairly immobile quarterback. I don't see them being able to do that two weeks in
a row, especially against a very mobile quarterback with something to play for.
Look for Rodgers to carve up this very holey (Christmas pun intended) defense!
