Gurley Man!
What do you get when you cross an unstoppable force with an immovable object?
The Saint Louis Rams, of course!!!
Some of my compatriots think I have a Man Crush on the Rams. I keep telling them
this isn't true. It's more specifically just a Todd Gurley Man Crush! This guy
truly has looked like an unstoppable force the last three weeks. Rams fans are
thrilled that Jeff Fisher finally has another Eddie George (some of you may be
too young to even remember him) to get him above his very predictable 8-8
records posted over the past decade and a half . . . and he is gonna ride him
hard and put him away wet. Especially this week against a very weak 9ers rush
defense.
And, how about the Rams defense? Last week they looked like an immovable object
to me. They completely shut down the Browns only allowing them to put up 6
points. I gotta believe they are licking their chops to play at home again this
week against a 49ers offense that has scored the least points in the NFL this
year, averaging less than 15 pts a game. The 9ers only scored 3 pts. last week
against the Seahawks and I don't see it being much different this week.
The 9ers are in total shambles with dissension in the ranks and all their best
offensive players banged up (Kaepernick, Hyde, and Boldin). Hiring Jim Tomsula
was a terrible call. It was the classic 'be careful what you wish for' moment
for both he and the 49ers when they booted Jim Harbaugh out because he was
rubbing some people in front office the wrong way. Who out there remembers the
'Peter Principle'? The concept that organizations tend to continue to promote
people until they reach the level of incompetence. Yep - fits perfect here.
Tomsula is a position coach, and a damn good one. He's just out of his element
now as a head coach.
I see the Rams whipsawing the 49ers defense all the way through this one -
running successfully early thereby getting the 9ers to bring 8 and 9 into the
box and then going deep, and then returning to the Gurley Man run game when the
9ers get gun shy about protecting deep. The only question in this one will be if
the Rams will score more touchdowns than the 49ers will have 3 and outs.
