NFL Best Bets for Week 16
December 22nd 2017 - Old Man Winner
Jax -4 @ SF
A few weeks back San Fran was my Best Bet pick, and I told you that I
thought they were much better than than record. Surprisingly, after an 0-9
start, the 49'ers have won four of their last five games. I live in the bay
area, and given that this streak matches up with the installation of new QB
Jimmy Garropolo, you can imagine how the city is responding to 'our new guy'.
Fittingly, at this time of year, they are talking about 'Jimmy' as the next
coming of Christ himself. I like him too, and see a real future for him in this
league, but let's back up the sleigh a little bit, ok fellas.
Three of those four victories were against the leagues bottom dwellers - Giants,
Bears, and Texans, who own a combined record of 10-32, with the fourth against
an average Titans team. Let's not get out over our skis here. Yes, they are
feeling better about themselves, as they should, but this week we'll really see
if there is any room at the Inn.
The 9ers are doing most of their offensive damage through the air, a place the
Jags are very protective. And, like the 9ers, the Jags have also morphed lately
into a very competent passing team, averaging 320/yds a game over their last
three games, albeit against some weaker competition.
I see the 9ers putting up a fight early and then relinquishing to a more
physical team in the second half. I think you will see Jimmy have his first two
int game this year and turnovers will dictate this one. I also see the Jags run
all over a 49er rush defense that hasn't seen a quality oline in many weeks.
