NFL Underdog Pick Week 14
December 8th 2018 -
Special K
Indianapolis Colts (+4.5) at Houston Texans
The Texans owe Frank Reich a big thanks for turning around their season. The
Texans current winning streak all started when Frank Reich decided to go for it
on 4th and 4 from their own 43 yard line in OT with 24 seconds left leaving the
door open for a Texans game winning field goal. Since that game, the Texans have
ripped off 9 straight wins. The Colts went on to lose their next two games
before turning their season around.
I know that the Colts have played two duds in a row. If this same Colts team
shows up this weekend against the red hot Texans, then this pick has no chance
either. However, I expect a better performance from the Colts with their season
being on the line and the fact they are playing against a familiar opponent.
This game totally falls on Andrew Luck's shoulders as the Texans have been solid
against the run and the Colts didn't even bother to run the football last week
against the Jags. Luck has put up solid stats in the last 3 games against the
Texans tossing 7 TD passes with a 61% completion percentage and an average of
330 yards passing so I have no concern there.
The Colts defense has been sneaky good this season as well. One would expect the
Texans to have the much more dominant defense with Watt and Clowney but let's
compare the two and you will be surprised.
Yards/Play - Hou: 5.4 Ind: 5.5
Yard/Game - Hou: 341.5 Ind: 347.8
Interceptions Hou:12 Ind: 11
Sacks - Hou: 34 Ind: 30
This game is going be one of those divisional dogfights. The last 9 games
between these two teams has been decided by a touchdown or less. I like the
chances of this game also being decided by a td or less so getting 4.5 points
seems to me like the sharpest underdog play this week. The Colts are also 4-0-1
in their last 5 meetings in Houston.
Take the Colts and the points
