Week 5 - Former Coaches Settling the Score
October 4th 2007 by Special K
This is the weekend that matches several coaches against their former teams.
We've got Romeo Crennel at New England, Tony Dungy vs. Tampa Bay, and Mike
Nolan vs. Baltimore. Last week we saw Ken Whisenhunt's team knock of his former
team, the Pittsburg Steelers.
Romeo Crennel at New England
Prior to joining the Browns in 2005, Romeo Crennel was one of the top
defensive
assistant coaches in the NFL and was an integral part in the Patriots winning
three
Super Bowl's (2001, 2003-04). Crennel and Bill Belichick go way back. Crennel
left the Patriots on good terms so the Patriots may take it a little easy on him
this weekend.
Tony Dungy vs Tampa Bay
Tony Dungy was head coach with Tampa Bay from 1996-2001, where the Bucs made it
to the playoffs four times in six seasons. Dungy won his first meeting against
his former team back in 2003. It was one of the greatest comebacks in Monday
night football. The Colts were down 35-14 with only about 5 minutes left and
scored 21 unanswered points and then won it in overtime on a field goal. I'm
guessing Tony would like to stick it to his former team once more.
Mike Nolan vs Baltimore
Mike Nolan joined the San Francisco 49ers in 2005 after doing an outstanding
job as defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens. In Baltimore, Nolan's
defense was among the NFL's best in all defensive categories. The relationship
between Nolan and his former team are unknown but we do know that Trent Dilfer
is very bitter at his old coach. Read More
