Wild-Card Predictions: Seahawks vs Redskins
January 3rd 2008 by Special K
Seattle Seahawks -3.5 vs Washington Redskins Qwest
Field will be rocking this Saturday night and the 12th man advantage will help
propel the Seahawks over the surging Redskins. The Seahawks are 7-1 straight up
and 6-2 against the spread at home this year. The Seahawks defense has held
opponents to just under 14 points per game at home.
The Redskins defense has also been stellar during their current 4 game winning
streak. They have totally shut down opponents running games. Just last week they
held the Dallas rushing attack to just 1 yard. The success of the Seattle
passing attack against this aggressive Redskins defense is one of the big keys
for Seattle in this game. I give the Seahawks' receivers the match up edge
against the Redskins secondary in this game. The Seahawks receiving core, made
up of Bobby Engram, Nate Burleson, D.J. Hackett and Deion Branch should be able
to make big plays against the Redskins man coverage. When spreading the defense
out using three and four receivers sets, the Seahawks like the Packers this year
have enjoyed a lot of success.
The Redskins offense is now being led by 36 year old Todd Collins. Collins
passer rating of 106.4 would only be second to Tom Brady if he had more
attempts. However,
the last time Todd Collins had seen any playoff action was when the Unabomber
Ted Kaczynski was arrested. Even though Collins has been around the league for
13 years, I think his lack of experience in big time games will show this
weekend. I give the edge to the Seahawks' defense who are ranked fourth in the
NFL with 45 sacks, tied for fourth with 20 interceptions, and tied for second in
the league with 25 forced fumbles.
