Before we start with this week's divisional matchups, we do
have to acknowledge the fact that the NFL playoff format and seeding structure
is completely flawed. Last week, teams like the Colts and Falcons had to
hit the road even though they had better season records than their opponents.
This week in the divisional round, the #1 seeds (the Giants and Titans) have to
play teams with better records (Ravens and Eagles) than the teams that the #2
seeds have to play (Cardinals and Chargers).
It's rematch weekend as every team has
played the other team this season. The Cardinals had a 17-3 lead in
Carolina in week 9 before the Panthers came roaring back to win 27-23. The
Panthers are a perfect 8-0 at home this season while the Cardinals have not won
a game on the East Coast in ages. The Giants and Eagles split their season
series with each team winning on the road. The Eagles are definitely
playing with a lot of confidence but the Giants are poised to repeat. The
Titans had squeaked out a 13-10 win earlier this season at Baltimore. The
Ravens haven't forgotten how the Titans final drive remained alive after a
questionable roughing the passer call. I especially haven't forgotten the
negated Polamalu TD by an official in the week 11 game between the Steelers and
Chargers!
