Besides not making the playoffs, what do the Patriots,
Cowboys, Jaguars and Seahawks all have in common? They were all highly
favored at the start of this season to win the Super Bowl (the Patriots had the
best odds followed next by the Cowboys). All these teams made last year's
postseason as well.
This must be the first time in NFL
history that all the road teams are favored in the wild-card round of the
postseason. The Eagles are the only road team with a winning percentage
lower than the divisional winner. The Dolphins look to
avenge a week 7 loss to the Ravens, a game in which the Ravens won easily 27-13.
Both teams combined for only 6 wins in 2007 and are being led in 2008 by rookie
head coaches.
Cam Cameron, who is now Baltimore's offensive coordinator, got his one and only
victory over the Ravens as Miami's head coach back in 2007. The Colts and
Chargers have quite a rivalry brewing as both teams are starting to peak as
they enter the playoffs. Rookie QB Matt Ryan and veteran QB Kurt Warner
will be dueling in the desert. Meanwhile, Adrian Peterson and Brian Westbrook,
two of the leagues premier running backs, will do battle against two of the best
run defenses in the league at the Metrodome. It should be an entertaining
weekend of football.
